Basic tips for messes that are common cleaning frustrations for many in the kitchen!

GAS GRATES

Grates on your gas cooktop or range:  Ammonia fumes clean the grease and scum off within 8-10hours.  This week I tested this myself, even used a brillo because I thought "no way!".  But all that grease nearly fell off.  My gas cooktop looks like new again.   Click on the picture below for a view of the step by step transformation!

MICROWAVES

Mix 1 cup of water with 2 Tablespoons of baking soda.  Place in microwave and cook for 3-4 minutes.  Be sure you use a large enough cup of bowl so the water does not overflow when it boils.   Remove and whip clean with a damp rag or paper towel.  Bonus, baking soda helps rid of odors too.     I have also used 1 cup water + 1/4 vinegar (boil for 3 mintues) to dissolve splatters also!

NOTE:  this does not work effectively if you have a stainless steel interior, scratch resistant brillo + Bon Ami cleanser is the only thing that works for me thus far!

GARBAGE DISPOSAL

Dont throw away lemon or orange rinds!  Throw them in your disposal for thorough grinding.  Another alternative is to use ice cubes that are made with 1/2 water and 1/2 vinegar.

COUNTER TOP BLENDER

After you have blended your favorite drink or dish, simply bring it to the sink and fill 1/2 way with water and a little soap.   Place back on blender base and process until clean!   p.s.  dont forget the lid 🙂

DISHWASHERS

Clean out hard-water stains, deodorize, and sparkle the inside of the dishwasher by running a wash load using powdered lemonade mix. The ascorbic acid in the powder helps the cleaning action.

If the interior of your dishwasher retains odors, sprinkle 3 tablespoons of baking soda in the bottom of the machine and allow it to sit overnight. The odors will be washed away with the baking soda during the next wash cycle.

REFRIGERATORS

Wipe the inside of your refrigerator with a sponge soaked in vanilla extract to deodorize it. Sorry, no remedies for the obvious other spills other than hot water + dish soap!

COOKING SURFACE or OVEN SPILLS

Make a paste of lemon juice, baking soda and water.  Apply to spills and let sit 15 minutes.  Scrub and rinse with water & sponge
